CARMEL, Ind.--When two people were killed in Carmel neighborhood Monday morning, it was the result of what police are calling a “domestic situation” that occurred prior to the “suspect threatening suicide.”

In an update Tuesday, Carmel police say the original 911 caller told them the suspect had a gun and gunshots were heard in the background of that 911 call. When police got to the scene in the Spring Creek Neighborhood near 146th street and Hazel Dell Parkway, they say they saw the suspect still armed nearby and chased him.

Carmel police say one of their officers fired their gun to “prevent any further danger to our community or officers.” The suspect has been identified as Julio Cesar Virula, 26. An autopsy will determine if Virula died from the officer’s gunshot.

One of the victims has been identified as Taylor Leigh Cox, 28, of Carmel. She was pronounced dead.

The other victim is a 66-year-old woman. Police did not give her name. She was taken to a hospital and later released.

The Carmel Police Department says they are asking anyone that may have witnessed the incident or has information or evidence, such as video surveillance recordings, to call their emergency dispatch number at 317-571-2580.
