GREENWOOD, Ind. — Greenwood Community Schools will open Aug. 6, a week later than its original start date of July 30.
The school district informed parents of the change on Saturday, according to The Daily Journal.
Administrators chose to delay the start of the academic year to give parents more time to decide whether they want their children to attend in-person classes or go to school virtually. Parents have until Friday to make that decision, according to The Daily Journal.
Delaying the start of the school year will also provide teachers and staff with more time to prepare for distance learning and “the related complexities this unique school year brings,” Greenwood Community Schools said in a letter to parents.
Students attending school in-person will be required to wear masks, according to the letter.
