INDIANAPOLIS — A man is charged with murder for a shooting that happened early Sunday morning during riots in downtown Indianapolis.

Tyler Newby, 29, is accused of fatally shooting 18-year-old Dorian Murrell.

Police found Murrell at the intersection of E. Market and N. Pennsylvania Streets. He had been shot in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive.

Witnesses told police that Newby and Murrell were arguing and then Newby fired his gun, hitting Murrell in the stomach.

Police believe Murrell ran away and then collapsed in the intersection.

Prosecutors said Newby went up to police after the shooting and stated that he shot someone “near the Circle.” The intersection where Murrell collapsed is one block east of Monument Circle.
