President Donald Trump sharply criticized the latest COVID-19 data models in an interview with ABC anchor David Muir, noting that the figures “have been so wrong from day one” – both on the upside and the downside.

“They’ve been so wrong, they’ve been so out of whack,” said Trump. “And they keep making new models, new models and they’re wrong. Those models that you’re mentioning are talking about without mitigation. We’re mitigating and we’ve learned to mitigate, but we can be in place, work in place, and also mitigate. We’ve done it right, but now we have to get back to work. We have to do it.”

The White House publicly denounced a report from Johns Hopkins Tuesday that projected the death rate could double in the U.S. if the government fails to take proper safety precautions with the anticipated full reopening of America by June.

The University of Washington also issued a study on Tuesday that claimed there could be 135,000 COVID-related American casualties by August.

Trump acknowledged to Muir that his personal projections have also evolved new data becomes available.

“Well, the upper number was, as you know, 2.2 million people. And then there are some, some models or charts that showed higher than that,” said Trump. “But 2.2 million people. I always felt 60, 65, 70 — as, as horrible as that is. I mean, you’re talking about filling up Yankee stadium with death. So I thought it was horrible, but it’s probably going to be somewhat higher than that.”

WIBC’s Nigel and Rob Kendall noted that the media and the President’s apparent relationship with the latest COVID-19 models is similar to the way they associate with political polling data.
