JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. — President Trump is dismissing speculation about a rift with Attorney General Bill Barr.

Chatting with reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump said he has total confidence in Barr. Barr complained last week that Trump’s tweets about the Justice Department were making it impossible to do his job.

Trump defended his critical tweets about the prosecution of longtime ally Roger Stone.  Trump said he has an absolute right to insert himself in Justice Department deliberations if he chooses to do so.

Trump also called himself the “chief law enforcement officer” in the country. Stone will be sentenced on Thursday after a jury convicted him of seven felony counts involving obstruction, lying to Congress and witness tampering.

Prosecutors abruptly quit the case last week after the Justice Department overrode a sentencing recommendation of seven-to-nine years.

The department is seeking a lighter sentence.
