FLORA, Ind. — The man found dead in Carroll County the same morning six people were killed in a house fire in Cass County, was the father of three of the children killed in that fire.

Flora’s fire chief confirms Daniel Hite was found dead at his home shortly after 4 a.m Wednesday morning. Hite lived around 25 miles from the house that caught fire in Logansport.

His three children, three-year-old Swayzee, one-year-old Rhyile, and 3-month-old Marshall were all killed. Their mother, 25-year-old Brandi Vail was also killed along with Joseph Huddleston and his 10-year-old daughter Kadee.

Investigators say in spite of the proximity of the two incidents, they do not suspect Daniel Hite had any involvement in the fire in Logansport.

Inspectors with the state fire marshal’s office have already determined the fire was not intentionally set since they couldn’t find any evidence pointing to arson.
