MARION, Ind.–An arrest has been made in an officer-involved shooting that happened in Marion this past Sunday.

On Friday, State Police announced that they had arrested 19-year-old Angel G. Rangel on two counts of attempted murder on July 29, 2025. The shooting happened two days before that on July 27.

“He also had a felony warrant out of Grant County. Detectives from State Police established probable cause, which led the Grant County Prosecutor to file charges against Rangel,” said State Police Sergeant Steven Glass.

Glass says Rangel voluntarily surrendered to the Grant County Jail after the arrest warrant was issued.

The shooting happened just after 10 am on July 27. The Marion Police Department had gotten a call about shots being fired near the intersection of 4th and Western Street.

“As officers were heading to this location an officer saw a vehicle that matched the description from the original call near the intersection of 1St Street and D Street. The officer then saw a passenger in the white SUV actively engaged in firing shots from the SUV towards a pedestrian that is believed to be the same target of the original shots-fired call. The officer then engaged the suspect and fired his weapon,” said Glass.

Police believe Rangel is the one who ran away from the scene after firing shots before being caught. No one was hurt, but several homes in the area were hit by the gunfire.
