Councilor Roberts Cleared in Police Investigation

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – An investigation into the accusations against Indianapolis Democratic City-County Councilor Nick Roberts has been closed and dropped by the Fishers Police Department.
The decision comes after a woman filed a police report claiming Roberts, held her against her will and groped her during a second date in Fishers. Roberts has vehemently denied the accusations.
The 18-year-old woman alleged that she repeatedly tried to push Roberts away and told him to stop, but his grip tightened. She described the experience as traumatic.
Roberts, 24, who was elected in 2023, confirmed going on two dates with the woman but maintained that her claims of non-consensual contact were false. He had previously stated his strong belief in consent and that he would never push back if someone resisted.
Following the Fishers Police Department’s decision to close and drop the case, Roberts took to social media to express his gratitude to the department and his supporters.
The news also comes as Democrats on the council are considering significant changes to the city’s human resources policies, spurred by Mayor Joe Hogsett’s handling of past harassment claims.
Roberts also serves as the Director of Community Relations for the Lawrence Township Trustee’s Office. The woman had previously stated her reason for coming forward was to warn others.
