HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind.–A semi fire caused the closure of all lanes of eastbound I-70 in Hancock County at the State Road 9 exit were closed for several hours on Tuesday.
Public Information Officer Greg Duda with Hancock County 911 say they started getting calls about the fire at about 11 am.
“Some of the video and photos we got show you just how big it was. It was really going,” said Duda.
Duda says the best part was learning that no one was injured in this incident. He says several fire departments from around the area chipped in to bring water, which helped put the fire out faster.
“That is the tricky part with a vehicle fire on the interstate. We have to bring the water with us. We appreciate all of the help we do get in situations like that,” said Duda.
All of the lanes that were closed opened back up around 3:45 pm. They’re trying to figure out what caused the crash and the fire.
