LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Lafayette father who pleaded guilty to murdering his 3-month-old son is sentenced to 92 years in prison.

The Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office said Eliasard Moneus, 29, was sentenced this week. As part of a plea deal, charges of aggravated battery, criminal confinement and domestic battery against him were dropped.

Moneus also pleaded guilty to trying to kill his wife.

Police initially responded to a 911 call from the wife who was at a hospital. Investigators ended up arresting Moneus at his apartment for him battering his wife with a tire iron. While being interviewed, Moneus also denied knowing where his infant son was, who was the subject of an Indiana Silver Alert issued by the Lafayette Police Department on Aug. 10.

The infant was found asphyxiated the morning of Aug. 11. His body was in a bucket by a kitchen trash can inside a home. Investigators say Moneus tried to put 3-month-old Jacob in a bucket of liquid laundry detergent.
