UPDATE: The two puppies that were stolen from the Humane Society of Johnson County have been recovered and now are back with their mother. Police are still working to identify the people who jumped over a gate and crawled through a doggy door at the shelter to steal the dogs.

***Original Story***

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind.–Stealing puppies from an animal shelter in Johnson County is what police say one person did this past weekend.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says it happened last Saturday afternoon at the Johnson County Humane Society.

Employees think someone snuck into the outdoor kennel and took two of the four pitbull puppies from their mother. They’re only 5 weeks old. The first puppy is a blue and white female, the second puppy is a male that’s tan and has a black dot on its tail.

This incident also caused a policy change. The shelter now says people wanting to look at a dog or cat will now have to show a photo ID. They’re also ordering surveillance cameras.

You can see a picture of the puppies on the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page.
