Senator Todd Young on U.S. involvement in Israel – Iran Conflict. Senator Todd Young: We’ve been through some long wars, some forever wars. We want to stay out of that.
So, what comes next? Israel, with the preemptive attack, a massive success and a level of coordination and sophistication that for many people makes the pager attack look like child’s play. That’s how well done this is, and the ways in which Israel has so been able to get into Iran, been able to get into their highest levels of the ranks to be able to add all the technology they want to be able to conduct these attacks to end their capability of gaining a nuclear weapon. Incredible stuff. Senator Todd Young joins me right now of Indiana. He is on the road traveling, but took some time to be here. Sir, you and I have had some very lengthy conversations regarding the Houthi rebels, regarding Iran’s proxies, the Houthis, Hamas and Hezbollah. You get wind of this preemptive attack from Israel. So, it’s a two-part question. First, were you aware that this was coming before the rest of the world and what was your response to it?
Well, I knew it was coming, Tony. I think everyone who is watching this closely, whether they have access to top secret information as I do as a member of the Intelligence Committee, or, you know, somebody who reads the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, or listens to Tony Katz, knew that this day would come yeah. Israel’s mortal enemy is the leading state sponsor of international terror they have time and time again as recently as yesterday has been as determined by independent experts to be violating the terms of their nuclear power program and instead using that program for military purposes, they’re very quickly rushing towards the development we have to assume of a nuclear weapon and at every turn threatened the state of Israel. You know they’ve launched missiles over the last year. Hundreds of missiles at the state of Israel and the people. Uh, Iran is funded Hamas and of course Hamas is the group that committed the horrific October 7 attacks. Iran has backed Hezbollah to the north and that group from Lebanon has attacked the Israelis. Iran has armed the Houthis, as you and I have discussed, and the Houthis more recently have attacked the US warships and international commerce and, and launched missiles and drones at Israel and, and, you know, lastly, Iran, I will say, has attacked Israel’s leading ally, and that is the United States of America and our forces in in Iraq and Syria. So, they have a pattern of misbehavior, and we knew that Israel because of their culture and because of their incentives, would be responding more than in kind. They are prepared to neutralize and perhaps even eliminate if they can, uh, the threat that Iran poses in terms of a nuclear weapon. So, I wasn’t surprised by this, but the, your, your operative question, which I’m happy to answer and, and short order what comes next? It’s not entirely clear
