Indianapolis, IN – Indianapolis Public Schools are hosting community conversions to discuss education reform.

(IPS) is reaching out to the community for crucial input as it navigates a different educational landscape, significantly reshaped by recent state legislative actions that have stirred considerable division.

The recent Indiana legislative session brought sweeping changes to Indianapolis education. One major change was the redirection of a portion of IPS property tax revenue to charter schools. The session also saw the establishment of the Indianapolis Local Education Alliance (ILEA), a new body mandated to explore resource sharing between the district and charters.

In an effort to navigate these challenges and gather diverse perspectives, Indianapolis Public Schools has announced a series of “community conversations.” The district emphasized that these meetings are designed to collect vital insights that will directly inform how IPS engages with the newly formed ILEA.

These meetings are open to all IPS families, district staff, and any interested community members. Each conversation will be hosted by IPS school board members. According to the district, these sessions will feature a presentation detailing the history of IPS and the role of the new ILEA. Following the presentation, attendees can participate in smaller group discussions, an opportunity to collectively share feedback together.

The public can register to attend these meetings at http://www.myips.org.
