CARMEL, Ind. — An Indianapolis man faces charges that include attempted murder in connection to a Sunday morning double shooting in Carmel.

Carmel police said Rodney Upshaw, 45, was arrested Sunday.

Upshaw was booked Sunday afternoon into the Hamilton County Jail, online records show.

Police were called around 7 a.m. to the 300 block of East 106th Street on a report of a shooting. They arrived to find Mark Cowherd, 36, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a nearby hospital, treated and released, Carmel police said.

A second victim, 39-year-old Tina Naughgle, was located later with a gunshot wound in the leg. She was also treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

Before the announcement of the arrest, Carmel police had characterized the incident as isolated and said there was no concern for safety.

“We don’t believe there’s any concern for immediate danger concerns in our area. We do believe it is isolated and that it is relationship-based,” said Sgt. DJ Schoeff with Carmel police.
