CARMEL, Ind. — Pacers fanaticism reached perhaps its hottest point yet with the stabbing of two Knicks fans Saturday night at a brewery in Carmel.

That happened during Game 2 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals when Jarrett Funke, of Carmel, was bounced from the place because of intense smack talk between him and the two Knicks fans.

According to court documents, Funke, 24, returned and while the two men were outside, stabbed one of them in the back and the other in the leg.

Funke now faces several felony charges, including battery and criminal recklessness.

A Different Approach

Meanwhile, a New York City firefighter who loves the Pacers and who was seen being harassed because of his donning Pacers gear last week, was welcomed to Game 4, as a special guest of Tyrese Haliburton.

“I’m speechless. I could never have imagined this welcome. I have Boomer here. I have fire trucks. I have the Pacemates here. This is insane,” said Hans Perez.

Perez and family were picked up at the airport and delivered to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in a fire truck, and welcomed with a stay at the Bottleworks Hotel.

“All of this from a tragic moment that could have gone really bad,” he said. “Amazing city, amazing town, great fire department.”
