INDIANAPOLIS – Travelers are packing up and heading home after a full week of racing, concerts, and parties surrounding the Indianapolis 500. Hotels are clearing out, traffic is picking up, and visitors are making their way out of town following one of the biggest events of the year.

“I just had the most amazing time,” a woman at Indianapolis International Airport told WISH-TV. “He was always showing me things on TV about the race, and I finally said, ‘Maybe I’ll go one day.’ We just had the most amazing sports experience with friends and family.”

Airport officials say Memorial Day is one of their busiest travel days of the year, especially with so many people leaving after visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This year’s crowd topped 350,000, marking only the second sellout in race history.

For many fans, it’s back to everyday life after taking in the excitement of race week in Indy.

“The atmosphere, the camaraderie—I want to come back,” the traveler added.
