WASHINGTON — The House narrowly passed President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” Thursday in a 215-214 vote, stopping a nearly $2,000 tax increase for families and offering relief for Hoosiers and Americans nationwide.

All Democrats and two Republicans opposed the bill, which now moves to the Senate for further changes.

Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02), a supporter of the bill, called it the most pro-growth, pro-family, and pro-worker legislation in a generation.

“This bill puts more money in Americans’ pockets by making the Trump tax cuts permanent, ending taxes on tips and overtime, and keeping the child tax credit higher forever,” Yakym said. “It also strengthens our borders, backs law enforcement, boosts American energy, and cuts wasteful spending.”

The bill extends the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, and provides permanent relief from the death tax. It includes the largest investment ever in border security, aims to stop illegal immigration and fentanyl, and supports American manufacturing with tax breaks.

Despite warnings from Democrats about Medicaid cuts that could affect millions, Yakym stressed the bill’s benefits for Indiana families.

“It protects middle-class priorities and supports our local economy,” he said. “This is a key step toward fulfilling Republican promises and advancing America-first goals.”
