Carmel Man Accused of Plotting to Have His Wife Killed

CARMEL, Ind. — Police say they stopped a man from going through with a plan to have his wife killed.
Court papers show 44-year-old Darshan Soni is facing charges for conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and murder. Investigators say they got an anonymous tip earlier this month that Soni had asked an employee to help him find someone to kill his wife.
That employee later told police Soni offered them money and even asked about buying a silencer. Detectives say Soni also tried to poison his wife, but she survived. She told police she had odd health issues and once noticed a salty taste and a strange substance in her smoothie.
Soni reportedly gave the employee $2,000 to buy a used SUV for the plan and talked about borrowing a wig to use during the crime. Police later recorded a conversation between the two, where Soni appeared to backtrack, saying he wanted to avoid violence—but investigators had already heard enough.
He was arrested May 16 and is due in court May 22.
