INDIANAPOLIS —Police in Anderson say one of their off-duty officers was hurt Monday morning while trying to recover a stolen car near a high school in Indianapolis.

IMPD says they were called to the 600 block of Woodruff Place Drive West near Arsenal Tech High School around 6:30 a.m where they found a man had been hurt. The Anderson Police Department confirmed that one of their officers was the victim.

IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson described the man’s injuries as “minor.” He was taken to a hospital in “stable condition” and was “awake and breathing.”

The man’s car had been stolen, but it has since been recovered. Shots were fired in the incident. Now Thompson says they are trying to track down two suspects.

They believe one of the suspects is wearing a black hoodie with tan or gray pants, while the other is wearing either a gray or white top with black pants.

Arsenal Tech was placed on lockdown at the time, but the lockdown was lifted around 9 am. Both suspects are still on the run.

“If you see any suspicious activity or if you have surveillance footage with a camera system on your home, we ask that you review that and come forward with any information you may have,” said Thompson.
