Doctor Faces Charges After Drug Bust in Johnson County

FRANKLIN, Ind. — Johnson County prosecutors have filed charges Wednesday against 44-year-old Dr. Derrick Hasenour, who was arrested Friday, during a drug bust. He faces charges of dealing and obtaining a controlled substance.
Hasenour was an assistant medical director for the WindRose Health Network in Johnson County. Authorities said Tuesday that he was put on unpaid leave.
Prosecutors said Wednesday Hasenour was arrested after the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Franklin police say he bought controlled substances that were prescribed to patients before. The DEA and Franklin police used an informant to buy from him, according to Johnson County Prosecuting Attorney Lance Hamner.
“He was writing prescriptions and having the person who is receiving the prescription sell the drugs back to him, Hamner says. “That is described as drug dealing.”
Hamner says this was a prearranged transaction.
Investigators supervised a transaction between Hasenour and someone in the parking lot of a Rural King in Greenwood. Hasenour was immediately arrested after that.
Hasenour’s first hearing has not been scheduled yet, but he could face up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted.
