COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus man fought the law, and the law won.

Columbus Police arrested 24-year-old Brett Hamm after he struggled with officers and punched one of them in the face.

Police were called to a city park Tuesday evening to help an unconscious woman on a park bench, reports Local News Digital.

While at the park, officers spoke with Hamm and noticed he was intoxicated. They also learned he gave alcohol to the unconscious woman, even though she was underage.

Hamm was put in handcuffs and placed in a patrol car but was able to get his hands in front of his body.

When officers tried to handcuff him a second time, he punched one of them in the face.

Hamm was restrained, checked out at the hospital, and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.

He faces multiple charges, including battery on a police officer, public intoxication, and providing alcohol to a minor.

The officer Hamm hit was not injured.
