2024 Indiana Mr. Basketball Flory Bigunda Hits Transfer Portal After One Year At Kansas

Flory Bidunga, the 2024 Indiana Mr. Basketball, has made a decision to enter the transfer portal after just one season with the Kansas Jayhawks.

The 6-foot-9 freshman center from Congo was one of the top recruits in the 2024 class, having chosen Kansas over programs like Auburn, Duke, and Michigan.

However, his time in Lawrence has been marked by limited playing opportunities and adjustments to a highly competitive roster.

During his freshman season, Bidunga averaged:

  • 5.9 points
  • 5.4 rebounds
  • 1.6 blocks
  • 16.3 minutes per game

Despite showcasing flashes of dominance, particularly during games where he saw more than 25 minutes on the floor, Bidunga often found himself in a reserve role behind All-American Hunter Dickinson.

His performance included key highlights such as a 19-point, seven-rebound effort in a double-overtime game against Houston and two double-doubles in extended minutes.

While his athletic potential is undeniable, his limited role may have fueled this decision.

Reports suggest that Bidunga’s move might be linked to concerns about playing time and trust with the coaching staff rather than monetary incentives through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals.

Kansas head coach Bill Self had praised Bidunga’s raw athleticism but noted areas for growth, such as back-to-the-basket scoring and overall offensive consistency.

The former Kokomo High School standout arrived in the United States from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2021 and quickly became a force in Indiana high school basketball.

He led his team to remarkable runs in the state championship playoffs, racking up accolades like two-time Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year honors and finishing his high school career with over 1,600 points and 1,100 rebounds.

Bidunga’s entry into the transfer portal immediately makes him one of the most sought-after players in college basketball.

His physicality, rebounding ability, and shot-blocking skills have him projected as a future NBA first-round pick.

While his next destination is uncertain, his decision marks a critical juncture for both his collegiate career and Kansas’ future roster as the Jayhawks look to replace not only Bidunga but also departing seniors like Dickinson.

Wherever he lands, Bidunga’s potential and work ethic suggest that his basketball future remains incredibly bright.
