MUNCIE, Ind. — Several children woke up earlier this week and found a man in their house–and it wasn’t Santa eating his milk and cookies.

Muncie police deputies said one of the adults in the home found Allen Karns “sitting in the kitchen, at the table eating food and drinking a beer,” early on Monday morning.

Karns left the house on West Moore Road after the person told him to get out.

People learned that Karns was in the house when the oldest of five children in the house sent a text message to a relative saying that someone was in their house and they were scared.

The children told police they saw the man walking through the house, and that he nearly sat on a nine-year-old boy sleeping on a recliner.

Karns was found nearby and told police he had been sent to a home to check their heating and cooling unit. When police asked whether he had a work truck or an I.D. he said, “I don’t know. I think it was a buddy’s house.”

Karns admitted to taking Xanax before going into the home.

He was arrested for residential entry said the Muncie Star Press, and is in the Delaware County jail under a $5,200 bond.
