INDIANAPOLIS — Rain is expected throughout the afternoon, worsening already wet conditions. A low-pressure system moving into the area could bring winds up to 45 mph.

“We are going to be looking at gusts in that range throughout the day, and within those showers, you may have a brief increase toward that 40-50 mile-an-hour gust,” said Aaron Updike, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “Advisory criteria is for 45 mph plus, and since we’re expecting to be more in that 35-40 mph range, we have a special weather statement out.”

Temperatures will dip into the lower 40s and upper 30s by 4 p.m., leading to a chilly evening commute. Rain totals are expected to range from 0.25 to 0.50 inches in central Indiana.

A rain and snow mix is possible tonight, though any snow that falls will melt on contact. This serves as a reminder that winter lingers in the Ohio Valley.

Roads will remain damp overnight, and temperatures will drop into the mid-20s by sunrise, creating the potential for icy spots early Thursday.

Updike says Thursday will bring sunny skies, cooler temperatures, and brisk winds, with highs in the lower 40s. A warming trend is expected to begin Sunday, with temperatures possibly reaching 70 degrees by Tuesday.
