Ain’t No Case Like A Diddy Case: Diddy’s Lawyer Quits Before Trial

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lawyer, Anthony Ricco, has made the decision to withdraw from the music mogul’s criminal sex-trafficking case just weeks before the trial is due to start.

Ricco, who was once a defense attorney for Osama Bin Laden, is one of five lawyers who were set to represent Combs in his upcoming trial for sex trafficking and racketeering charges. According to TMZ, Ricco filed a motion requesting a withdrawal on Feb. 21st. The filing states:

“Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs, consistent with the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice.”

Ricco did not provide any reasons for his withdrawal, however he did say there was reason for his “brevity” and lack of detail as he did not want to violate attorney-client privilege.

There is speculation online about Ricco’s reasons for quitting. A TikTok user, @tayloreaves, shared a now-viral video claiming Ricco, who previously defended high-profile criminals, refused to work with Diddy due to an alleged necromancy-related charge.

Necromancy, traditionally associated with sorcery or communication with the dead, has no legal basis in U.S. law. Despite the bizarre claims, court records do not list necromancy among Combs’ charges.

Combs remains in custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting trial. His legal team, now down to five attorneys, continues to defend him as he pleads not guilty.
