WASHINGTON–With Inauguration Day coming up Monday, former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels and a former Strategic Communications Director of the 2020 Trump campaign are recalling their inauguration day and confirmation hearing memories.
When Daniels was confirmed as the director of the Office of Management and Budget, he was approved by the Senate 100-0. His hearing was overseen by Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman of Delaware. Daniels said both of his parents were there.
“Senator Lieberman says, ‘Excuse me a minute Mr. Daniels. There’s a red-haired lady sitting behind you and when we say something nice, she gets the most beautiful smile on her face. When we ask you a tough question, she scowls at me. Do you know who she is?’ I said, ‘Yes, Senator that’s my Mom,” said Daniels laughing in an interview with WIBC’s Rob Kendall.
As for Lotter, he was also previously a Press Secretary to Vice President and former Indiana Governor Mike Pence.
“When the new President gets to their residence that first night on Monday night, it’s fully set up for them. They have their toothpaste or any of the special products that they like,” said Lotter.
Lotter also says there’s a full-time staff dedicated to giving the President and his family everything they need.
“They’re asking ‘What is it that you prefer to eat? Your preferred soda? Pizza?’ and they start to build that for those families,” said Lotter.
Just getting used to the White House and how grand it is can be challenging, especially when the President is getting set up for his time in office.
“It takes you a good couple of weeks to maybe a month just to figure out how to get things to work. The whole country is looking at you for leadership while you’re trying to figure all of this stuff out,” said Lotter.
The first floor of the White House is the public floor and all of that furniture stays the same.
Soldiers from the Indiana National Guard will be deployed to Washington DC to assist with security for the upcoming presidential inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance. The inauguration will take place inside the Capitol Rotunda due to expected cold weather.
