GIBSON COUNTY, Ind.–A southern Indiana man is charged with murder because police believe he was involved in the deaths of two people who were found inside his burning Gibson County home.
53-year-old Michael Kegg was arrested Wednesday and taken to the Gibson County Jail. The fire happened Tuesday at a home on East State Road 64 near Francisco, Indiana. That’s between Oakland City and Princeton, about 40 minutes north of Evansville.
“These deaths were intentional,” said Gibson County Sheriff Bruce Vanoven.
Vanoven said at one point, firefighters and emergency responders had to pull back when they responded to the home because there was so much smoke.
“Mr. Kegg was located. He voluntary came in for an interview. After the interview, he was booked into the jail,” said Vanoven.
Vanoven says he can’t give away anything in terms of the investigation, but he said there is “sufficient” evidence against Kegg.
“I’m confident in the Indiana State Police Detectives and in my Detectives that we will get a conviction,” said Vanoven.
He says the investigation is far from over.
