GIBSON COUNTY, Ind.–A man from Indianapolis was arrested on Thursday for causing what police are calling a 32 mile chase on I-69.

State Police say a Sergeant tried to stop 24-year-old Brice Alkema in his 2020 Penske truck for violating the left lane law and causing a driver of a coal truck to drive on the emergency shoulder to avoid a sideswipe crash.

They say Alkema refused to stop and avoided stop sticks near Oakland City. A second set of stop sticks were deployed in Pike County, but police say Alkema drove over those and continued into Daviess County but eventually flipped his truck onto its side.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Officers say Alkema had a small amount of meth in the truck. They believe he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Alkema was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

After being treated, Alkema was arrested and taken to the Gibson County Jail.

The charges against Alkema are the following:

-Resisting Law Enforcement, Level 6 Felony

-Possession of Meth, Level 6 Felony

-Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class A Misdemeanor

-Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated – Endangerment, Class A Misdemeanor

-Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated (Controlled Substance), Class C Misdemeanor
