LIMA, Peru. — President Biden is attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru, one of his last global meetings before he leaves office in January.
Biden is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping today on the sidelines of the gathering in Lima. Among the key topics, the White House says Biden plans to express “deep concern” over China’s support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Beijing’s military actions around Taiwan.
They’re also expected to discuss resuming military-to-military contact, the global fentanyl crisis, and how to deal with the rapid growth of artificial intelligence.
The meetings come as President-elect Trump has vowed to impose 60 percent tariffs on all Chinese imports as part of America First trade policies.
It is Biden’s final face-to-face meeting with the Chinese leader as President.
