COLUMBUS, IND. (WISH) — Hurricane Helene has killed hundreds of people and caused significant damage.
Hoosiers are helping North Carolina by flying in essential supplies like food and toiletries. With many roads closed in the mountainous areas, air transport is vital.
Erin Huff, from the Civilian Crisis Response Team, said, “We can still help without sending people out of state.” The organization is seeking donations of nonperishable meals, tarps, lanterns, dog food, baby formula, and planes and pilots to transport these supplies to those in need.
Huff says that many people in North Carolina are stranded and unable to access necessary supplies. The team is working with Columbus Municipal Airport for logistics but still needs support.
The Columbus Airport Director says they’re still looking for more pilots and planes. “I think it’s just the resilience of what this community can bring together and what the U.S. can bring together. It’s so fantastic to see so many people reaching out,” Brian Payne said.
On the Facebook post, the Civilian Crisis Response Team listed their needs as baby formula, canned pet food, ready-to-eat food in sturdy packaging, portable electric lanterns, trash bags, toilet paper, plastic silverware and plates, and plastic tarps of any size
