INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Convention Center is safe, according to the Executive Director. His remarks follow the stabbing and strangulation death of a man in that building on Wednesday.

Court documents say Brian Fulton killed Al Gosnell. Workers at the convention center witnessed the attack, followed Fulton as he left the building, and called the police. They gave the police information on Fulton’s location, leading to his arrest just minutes after the attack.

“We had our 24-hour security in place. The armed IMPD uniformed off-duty officers were on the same floor,” said Andy Mallon, the Executive Director of the city’s Capital Improvement Board. He addressed security concerns at a City-County Council committee meeting on Thursday.

Mallon said the Convention Center invests in security, including card readers, access points, and extra guards. Six months ago, they even added police to help secure the building, one of the busiest in the world.

“I appreciate being held accountable, and we will continue to review this incident and look into it,” he said. “We will continue to add security and look at security measures.”
