GREENWOOD, Ind. — More than 30 years after bones were found on farmland in Greenwood, the remains have been identified. Now, Michael Davis’ family is responding to the updates in a once-cold case.
For years, investigators were unable to identify the remains. But, thanks to advanced DNA technology, they recently did so.
His cousin, Laurie Pineda, noted in a press conference, “Then all these years later, you kinda…you just start learning to live with it, some. But then to get that phone call…brought it up, so much, for all of us.”
Davis’ family members explained that he largely stopped communicating with them in the 1980s. Then, some of the South Carolina man’s remains were discovered on the farmland by Hoosier children in 1993.
Unfortunately, key evidence has likely been lost over time, as the land had been planted and reaped by farmers multiple times. But, police believe he may have come to Greenwood with a traveling carnival.
It is still not clear how Davis died. Officers believe he may have been killed, but they are not 100% sure.
For now, his family plans to bury him near relatives.
