SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Police in St. Joseph County are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Sunday morning.
Officers with the South Bend Police Department went near Washington Street and Wellington Street a few minutes after 4:20 a.m. They had heard about a “disturbance” involving a “large crowd.”
There, they say shots were fired, so an officer also fired his weapon.
California man Antoine Minor, 38, was shot and taken to the hospital, but it is not yet known if he was hit by the officer or someone else. A woman was also hurt, but it is not clear what led to her injuries.
Minor was last known to be in stable condition. According to a probable cause affidavit, he has a “substantial criminal history” in California, featuring convictions for crimes such as weapons violations, robbery, identity deception, and violating his parole.
Officers say they later found drugs and other items in a car that Minor had been using. He is now facing charges for various drug-related crimes, including possession of narcotics and possession of marijuana.
Investigators with the St. Joseph County Police and Mishawaka Police Departments are now trying to figure out exactly what happened.
