FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A Fort Wayne mother has pled guilty to neglecting her ten-year-old son. In return for the plea deal, prosecutors will drop an attempted murder charge if the judge accepts it.
Back in October of 2023, police in Fort Wayne got a 911 call from Bethany Fleming. She was frantic saying that someone was coming to take her and her son into sex slavery.
She also told dispatchers that she “tried to stop it and I hit him in the head with a hammer.” When police arrived the boy was still alive and taken to the hospital. She was also covered in blood having tried to stab herself. The boy survived.
Fleming has pled guilty, but mentally ill, to neglect charges and would have a 12-year sentence with seven years suspended. The deal means prosecutors will drop attempted murder charges.
She will be sentenced September 30, again that’s if the judge accepts the deal.
