CHICAGO — Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker says Chicago is ready for pro-Palestinian protests at the Democratic National Convention.
In an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union,” Pritzker said he’s confident in the city’s plan to handle the high numbers of expected protesters against Israel’s war in Gaza. He remained insistent, however, that violence would be met with consequences.
The DNC kicks off tomorrow and runs until Thursday, where Vice President Kamala Harris is set to formally accept her party’s nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson told ABC’s “This Week” Chicago police are working with the Secret Service to maintain a secure convention. Johnson said the DNC welcomes protesters expressing their first amendment right and there would be a place for them in Chicago.
The 2024 DNC will be the 27th time the city has hosted a national political convention.
