Mitch Daniels is one of the most prolific figures in Indiana political history. Long a proponent of limited spending and accountable government, would he have the passion necessary to take on the modern Indiana Republican Party that has drifted away from those core principles?

Daniels sat down with Adam Wren of Politico for a wide ranging interview, in which he discussed everything from education reform to government spending. As usual, Daniels was on point, but kind in his responses. When asked about his long standing concern over “woke” policy in public schools, Daniels said:

Misrepresentation of American history and American values has permeated much of — not all, but much of — education now for a good long time. And so the people who imbibed that growing up very often are the people who are now teaching, running school boards and so forth. And so I think that this wasn’t unforeseeable, but I do think it’s very unfortunate, and should be pushed back against.

There is no doubt that Mitch Daniels is the most successful Republican politician in Indiana since…well maybe ever. There’s also no dispute he accomplished much during his eight years in office. But as rumors continue to swirl that Daniels (who would be 75 when sworn in) is at least open to another run for governor, the biggest question many conservatives have, is not Daniels’ desire for reform, but would he have the wherewithal to see it through? Rob Kendall and Casey Daniels tackled this very question on today’s show.
