Climate Czar John Kerry says China’s pesky habit of committing atrocities against its own people is hindering his efforts to save the planet.

Kerry told PBS News Hour anchor Judy Woodruff Wednesday that climate talks between the US and China have stalled due to “differences of opinion” between the two nations over human rights abuses in the communist nation.

You see, China’s government is guilty of mass arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearances, mass surveillance, cultural and religious persecution, separation of families, forced returns to China, forced labor, sexual violence, and violations of reproductive rights. So in the words of Vice President Kamala Harris, “that’s bad.”

But kindhearted Kerry is undeterred in his mission. Yes, China commits horrific and brutal atrocities against its citizens, but as Kerry told Foreign Policy magazine in April of last year, minor “differences on human rights” should not preclude the U.S. and China from working together to fight climate change.

“We have differences on economic rules, on cyber,” told the magazine. ‘We have other differences on human rights, geostrategic interests, but those differences do not have to get in the way of something that is as critical as dealing with climate.”

What a compassionate fella.
