Rep. Maxine Waters, D-CA, has proclaimed Border Control’s treatment towards Haitian migrants at the southern border has been “worse than what we witnessed in slavery.”
Waters spoke at a press conference Wednesday outside the Capitol responding to the photos and claims that Border Patrol agents used whips against migrants attempting to cross Rio Grande.
Officials have announced that the agents did not have whips on site, but rather reigns to control their horses.
“I’m pissed. I’m unhappy and I’m not just unhappy with the cowboys who were running down Haitians and using their reins to whip them. I’m [unhappy] with the administration. We are following the Trump policy … he is the one that does not follow the constitution and would not allow those seeking refuge to petition to get into the country. What the hell are we doing here?”
The Congresswoman then stated that the treatment the Haitians received from Border Patrol was not only racist, but took us back to slavery days.
“What we witnessed takes us back hundreds of years. What we witnessed was worse than what we witnessed in slavery … cowboys with their reins, again, whipping black people.”
National Border Patrol Council Vice President Art Del Cueto told Fox News that agents are not assigned whips and the techniques used were within the safety protocol to protect all involved.
Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-OH, was also at the press conference where she said Democrats have requested a ‘halt’ on Border Agents using horses to coral migrants.
“We have never witnessed people who looked like me to be treated the way those Haitians were.”
Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-MA, proclaimed the treatment of the migrants at the border was ‘white supremacist behavior.’
“Haitian lives are black lives, and if we truly believe that black lives matter, then we must reverse course.”
The Representatives demanded the Biden Administration halt all deportation of Haitians.
