Mother Jumps From Fire With Three-Year-Old Child

INDIANAPOLIS—A mother jumped from the second story deck of a house that was on fire, along with her three-year-old son Wednesday evening.
The fire was at a home at 1314 Leonard St., near I-65, just south of downtown Indy.
Indianapolis Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Rita Reith said that when the man who lived in the house smelled smoke and realized the house was on fire, he yelled upstairs to the woman, who grabbed her son, hopped out on the deck, then on to the garage, then down to the ground.
The woman and child were checked out at the hospital and were okay.
Five people lived at the house and were looking for another place to live.
