During a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing Thursday, Senator Rand Paul called out the non-existent research that supports Americans wearing two masks.

A year after the coronavirus we now have millions of vaccinated citizens along with those who have the antibodies for the virus.

Sen. Rand Paul presented several case studies in which the data proves antibodies protect against the virus, thus no need for the extra protection of mask-wearing.

“Dr. Crotty (a virologist at the La Jolla Institute of Immunology who co-led the new study) found significant evidence of long-term immunity after COVID infection… Same study also found a woman who had the Spanish Flu was immune even after 90 years.”

He not only points out research supporting his argument, he points out the lack of research that suggests differently.

“There have been no studies showing significant numbers of re-infections. Of the 30 million Americans who’ve had COVID, only a handful of re-infections have been discovered.”

He asked Fauci what scientific research he had to back up any reasoning of double mask wearing or if it is “just theater.”

Fauci steers the conversation to how new variants pose a threat to even those with antibodies. He points to a Johnson and Johnson study done in South Africa. However, he did agree that it was unlikely those who have been infected or vaccinated will get the original strain for at least six months.

Tony Katz asks how would they know the antibodies won’t work for the other strands.

“Just because there are other variants doesn’t mean those variants aren’t dealt with regarding a vaccine or that antibodies aren’t created by those who get it. Therefore, what is the purpose of them wearing a mask?”

Fauci never provided research in favor of masks for those immune. Instead, the doctor’s argument focused on the new variants.
