Tuesday, Rep. Tim Ryan threw a temper tantrum on the floor after Republicans refused to back up the Pro Act.

The Protecting the Right to Organize Act was created to expand protections for organized labor. The bill would amend some of the country’s oldest labor laws to give workers more power while penalizing businesses that don’t corporate. The idea was to have the government level the playing field for union workers.

After Republicans opposed the Pro Act, Ryan decided to put on a performance crying “heaven forbid we pass something that’s going to help the damn workers in the United States of America.”

Tony Katz says the bill doesn’t help anyone, if anything it would hurt business owners.

“You can’t help the worker. What you want to do is punish the business owner. You’re not in the helping business, you’re in the throttling and punishing business.”

The most telling moment of Ryan’s speech was when he talked about a much needed change in equity. He emphasizes that we need to “tilt the balance that has been going in the wrong direction for 50 years.”

Tony points out just how wrong that is.

“Saying ‘tilt the balance’ is the quiet part said out loud. Tilt the balance of what? You think it’s the government’s job to even things out? ‘Equality of outcomes’ is something every rational free-thinking person should oppose…that’s totalitarianism. No thank you.”

Ryan ends his rant by saying the right needs to “stop talking about Dr. Seuss and start working with us on behalf of the American workers.”

Well on behalf of the American workers, we’ll continue to fight.
