CARMEL, Ind.–Body camera footage from the Carmel Police Department showing details of what led up to the shooting death of a man January 31.

In the video released Thursday, it shows officers responding around 11:25 a.m. on Jan. 31 to the 400 block of West Main Street on a call of a potentially suicidal person.

On the way to the call, officers were told by witnesses in the area that shots were being fired from inside the house into the neighborhood, said Lt. Tim Byrne, with Carmel Police Department.

It shows Keith Scales, 60, standing on his porch armed with a rifle, talking with officers.

“You don’t want to do this, bud. Just talk to us,” said officers in the video. They also ask Scales to put down his weapon.

Moments later Scales was shot. He later died at the hospital.

Five officers were involved in the shooting. They have been identified as:

The Carmel Police Department is handling the internal investigation. The Fishers Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office will review the findings.
