BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — A man who played a role in the 2018 murder of Boone County Deputy Jacob Pickett has been sentenced to 40 years.

Last year, John Baldwin Jr. agreed to plead guilty to dealing meth and resisting law enforcement. As part of the deal, the murder charge was dropped.

Baldwin was the driver of the car that led police on the chase. Anthony Baumgardt, who shot and killed Pickett, was sentenced to life in prison without parole. A third person, John Ball, who provided the gun, was sentenced to 48 years in prison.

For Baldwin, this is his 13th and 14th felony conviction. He is currently serving a separate sentence on a probation violation and must finish that one before he begins his sentence for the Pickett murder.
