Indianapolis, IN – On June 26, Helping Veterans and Families (HVAF), in partnership with the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs and Workforce Development Department, proudly hosted a Job Fair for Veterans at the Indiana Veterans Center in downtown Indianapolis. The event featured a dozen local
companies, including Eli Lilly, FedEx, Fastenal, and many more eager to connect with veteran job seekers and help them transition into meaningful employment.
With 1 in 10 homeless individuals in Indianapolis being a veteran, according to the latest PIT count, employment plays a crucial role in providing stability and creating a pathway to self-sufficiency. Events like this job fair are a tangible effort to address this challenge head-on.
“The number of companies here is incredible, and I got to talk to all of them,” said Tommy, a Marine veteran who attended the event. “I’m a hard worker, so I’m hopeful!”
HVAF CEO, Emmy Hildebrand, emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for veterans to thrive. Employment is a crucial ingredient for self-sufficiency for Hoosier veterans. We are pleased to partner with the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs to host a job fair that directly connects veterans with employers.”
Travis D. Higham, Veteran Employment Coordinator with Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs, also highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “Events like today’s career fair are significant because they bring together our veteran community and help to build it to new heights by creating and strengthening partnerships that will benefit our veterans, hopefully for years to come.”
Over 48 veterans attended the job fair, engaging with employers from a variety of fields, including healthcare, construction, technology, and manufacturing.
