AUBURN, Ind.–What began as a traffic stop ended with an Auburn police officer firing his gun at a man on a motorcycle Thursday morning.

State police say the traffic stop happened at the corner of Phillip Street and Dekalb Avenue in Auburn around 11:30. A man was on the motorcycle with another woman. Police say the Auburn police officer approached the motorcycle and the man got off the motorcycle and pointed a handgun at him.

The officer fired his gun at the man and the bullet hit him, police say. Emergency responders arrived to help the man and they took him to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He is injured, but the extent of his injuries was not given.

The woman was not injured.

Per their department policy, the Auburn Police Department has placed that officer on administrative leave while an investigation takes place.

Once Indiana State Police have completed their investigation, the case will be turned over to the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s office.
