INDIANAPOLIS--An arrest has been made in a murder case involving the weekend violence during the riots in Indianapolis.

Tyler Newby, 29, is being held at the Marion County Jail but hasn’t been formally charged yet. Police believe he was the man who shot and killed Dorian Murrell, 18.

Murrell was found shot at Market and Pennsylvania streets around 2:30 Sunday morning. That’s just east of Monument Circle and near the location of the fatal shooting of former Indiana University football player Christopher Beaty just before midnight Saturday near North Talbott and East Vermont streets.

Murrell was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. No one has been arrested in Beaty’s murder.

Jail records show Newby has been in the Marion County Jail since at least 8:45 a.m. Sunday. Police said they worked with the prosecutor’s office to issue a warrant for Newby’s arrest on Sunday.

If you have any information on this shooting or any crime, you should call the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crimestoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
