BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — You may not know that Crest toothpaste was developed by two research scientists at Indiana University in Bloomington.
Now, those two scientists are being inducted into The National Inventors Hall of Fame.
According to the Bloomington Herald-Times, Joseph Muhler was a dental research scientist, while William Nebergall was a chemistry professor. Both were working at IU in the 1950’s when they invented stannous fluoride, which was later used to create the Crest toothpaste brand in 1956 for Proctor & Gamble.
The two will be inducted on May 2 in Washington, along with 17 other inventors and innovators.
Nebergall died in 1978, while Muhler died in 1996.
