Accused pedophile and disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was found injured inside his cell at a New York City jail Wednesday, according to multiple reports from NBC 4 New York and numerous other media outlets.

Epstein, who is being held in Metropolitan Correctional Center during his trial, was found semi-conscious with marks on his neck.

Investigators are still gathering details about the incident, with sources telling Fox News it was not immediately clear how Epstein incurred his injuries, but speculation has surfaced that Epstein might have intentionally harmed himself in a bid to get transferred from the jail.

From Fox News:

Epstein allegedly created and maintained a “vast network” and operation from 2002 “up to and including” 2005, enabling him to “sexually exploit and abuse dozens of underage girls” in addition to paying victims to recruit other underage girls.

Per prosecutors, he “worked and conspired with others, including employees and associates” who helped facilitate his conduct by contacting victims and scheduling their sexual encounters.

WIBC host Tony Katz discussed the story Thursday morning:

“You’re involved in child sex trafficking, you gotta go. You absolutely have to go. We can’t have a society of any level of decency at all where somebody can be around grownups sexually abusing children – abusing children or sexually abusing children – and say, ‘You know what? They get to still have a position of influence and power.’ That absolutely, absolutely cannot happen.”
