GREENWOOD, Ind.–A felony charge has been filed against a man from Greenwood who’s accused of beating his mother’s pet border collie to death Sunday.

The Greenwood Police Department (GPD) says they arrested Michael Lukas, 35, at his mother’s house Sunday night after his sister showed them home security video of Lukas beating Gypsy, a 16-year-old border collie.

Lukas’ mother, Cheryl, owns a security camera system and has an interior camera.

Investigators say the video shows Lukas swearing at the dog, kicking, and hitting it while the dog whimpered. Lukas’ sister, Melissa, later told police she found the dog dead in their mother’s house.

Melissa told police that Michael said he did not know what happened to the dog. He made the same statement to police, according to the GPD report, but then later admitted to kicking and throwing Gypsy after he was told about the security video.

Lukas has been arrested and charged with killing a domestic animal, a Level 6 Felony.
