INDIANAPOLIS — Two men have been arrested in the investigation into the murders of a man and a woman in August.

Indianapolis Metro Police issued warrants for the arrests of Dwayne Lucas and Terrell Redd, both of whom are 31-years-old. Officers believe they were involved in the killings of Shainita Caffey, 25, and Miles Cross, 26. They were both arrested and booked into jail late last night.

Both Caffey and Cross were found shot to death along Lafayette Road near the intersection of Tibbs Avenue on the northwest side of the city.

“When officers arrived, they located an adult male and female who had appeared to have been shot,” said Officer Michael Hewitt. “EMS responded to the scene and transported both victims to an area hospital.”

Witnesses told investigators Caffey and Cross were in an SUV stopped at the red light when another car pulled up and two men got out.

The witnesses said the two men opened fire and missed Caffey as she tried to get out and run from the car, but the witnesses said they shot her and saw her fall to the ground.

Police said Caffey was on a recorded call to Indianapolis Power & Light when the shooting began. She can be heard screaming “Oh my God! I have a daughter! I have a daughter” between gunshots during the call, according to court documents said.

Both Lucas and Redd were formally charged with murder yesterday and their jury trials will begin in December.
